Report: Kuzyk shot at Tenn. deputy in 2011, was indicted in 2011 murder

The man arrested in connection with the shooting of Hopkinsville Police Officer Jeremy Davidson Monday morning was arrested in 2011 after shooting at a deputy and had also previously been indicted for a murder.

As previously reported, 28-year old Keith Allen Kuzyk of Cumberland Furnace, Tenessee is lodged in the Montgomery County jail, facing multiple charges in Kentucky and Tennessee.

The Leaf Chronicle reports that in September of 2011, Montgomery County Deputy Geoff Blanchard approached Kuzyk in reference to a shoplifting investigation and that he fled in a vehicle. Kuzyk reportedly pulled a rifle and fired as many as 20 rounds at Deputy Blanchard before wrecking his pickup. Kuzyk sustained severe injuries and was later sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to felony charges. He was only required to serve 30-percent of that sentence.

Kuzyk and another man were indicted for murder and robbery in connection with the August, 2011 shooting death of Douglas “DJ” Ramey, but pled guilty in 2014 to lesser charges of facilitation of criminally negligent homicide and received an 11-month and 29 day sentence.

Kuzyk remains lodged in the Montgomery County Jail, awaiting extradition to Christian County.
