Bethel Street shooting murder suspect arraigned

The sixth suspect arrested in relation to the Bethel Street shooting that killed one and injured another was arraigned in Christian District Court Tuesday for murder and robbery charges.

Twenty-two year old Shakkory Willis was the final suspect sought in the shooting that killed Corvyan Thomas and sent Dylan Stewart to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for a gunshot to the leg last Thursday. District Judge Foster Cotthoff entered a not guilty plea on his behalf and ruled for his bond to stay at $1 million.

Along with murder, Willis is additionally charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. Willis had turned himself into the Christian County Jail Monday, with 21-year old James Joseph Yates and 20-year old Lane Carter of Hopkinsville already in custody on charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

The warrant for Willis alleges he shot Thomas three times with a 9 mm handgun during the course of the robbery.

Two juveniles were also arrested for complicity to first-degree robbery and a third juvenile was arrested for first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and criminal possession of a forged instrument. One of the juveniles is 14 years old, according to citation for Carter.

Judge Cotthoff set a preliminary hearing for Monday at 1 p.m.
