The Hopkinsville-Christian County Imagination Library has been bringing books to children for years and they’re seeking donations to help them continue their mission.
Presenting to the Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville Thursday, Imagination Library Coordinator Bonnie Lynch says the program was established in 1995 by music artist Dolly Parton, but it didn’t get under way in Christian County until 2013.
The Imagination Library provides books to children between the ages of 0 to five years old, every month, in an effort to encourage early education through reading. Lynch says it’s their hope to get these children ready for kindergarten and therefore be ready to succeed later in life.
She says the feedback from the community has been nothing but positive about the program, which is also bringing families closer together while children are learning.
Lynch says they have provided books for over 7,000 children since the program came to the community, and they plan to continue offering the service to even more.
