Local jail getting new body scanner

Christian Fiscal Court accepted a bid Tuesday morning for the jail to purchase a new body scanner and heard an update on a new event coming from Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation.

The $185,000 bid from Romaine will get the jail an Adani dual generator scanner that Jailer Brad Boyd says will flag areas of the body where an individual may be attempting to smuggle drugs, a cell phone or other contraband into the jail.

He says inmates who go to work release sites will be scanned each day when they return.

The scanner is being paid for with commissary funds after the General Assembly approved legislation last year that allows jails to use those funds for upgrades to jail security.

Meanwhile, Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman gave a 2018 year in review and outlined the 2019 schedule—saying a half-marathon is coming to Hopkinsville in October.

The United Way of the Pennyrile will be the beneficiary of any proceeds—with representatives of their agencies likely to volunteer to help staff the event.

Brockman also announced there will be a 7-on-7 high school football passing league July 19th and 20th at various sites in Hopkinsville.

In other action, magistrates approved pay requests on the new public safety building and on Alhambra Theatre renovations.
