United Way celebrates raising $767k in campaign

The United Way of the Pennyrile wrapped up its 2018 fundraising campaign Thursday evening by handing out awards and announcing that $767,356 was raised to support their partner agencies.

It was a full house of donors, volunteers and agency representatives at the Bruce Convention Center as co-chairs Russ Guffey and Chris Gilkey announced that the 21 partner agencies they help fund will be able to continue serving. Gilkey says the impact the United Way makes wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of all who donate to the cause.

One of the winners of the prestigious J. William Flowers Award was former United Way President and CEO Jennifer Maddox, who says it was an extreme honor and she is always amazed by the giving spirit of the community.

The second recipient was Dustin Gilbert, who was one of the organizers of Small Business Week. President and CEO Annie Catron says she’s looking forward to the United Way reaching more people in need.

The overall winner of the People Helping People Award was H&R Agri-Power, while Bastin Optometric Clinic won for small firms, Hopkinsville Fire Department took it for the medium firm category and the large firm winner was Planter’s Bank.
