Sen. Westerfield, Rep. Thomas talk legislation after one week of session

Pro-life legislation has already made its way out of the Kentucky Senate one week into the 2019 session of the General Assembly and a local representative is advocating for his own bills in the House.

Senate Bill 55 requires providers of abortions to report all types of abortion procedures to the state and State Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County says it passed the upper chamber Friday without as much controversy as some other bills.

He also supports Senate Bill 9, a more controversial bill that would make abortions illegal when a heartbeat is detectable.

Meanwhile, Eighth District state Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville says he’s sponsoring bills to assist retired military veterans and victims of domestic violence.
