The Pennyroyal Arts Council will kick off the next Big Read event on January 25 and this year’s book is “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien.
The event will take place at the newly renovated Alhambra Theatre and Director Margaret Prim says Hopkinsville is one of 75 communities that receives a grant to participate in the Big Read.
“The Things They Carried” is a collection of short stories by Tim O’Brien that follows the journey of a platoon of soldiers fighting in the Vietnam War. Prim says the kickoff event will be a USO Show that will start at 7 p.m. at the theatre and the first 100 visitors will receive a free copy of the book.
She says it’s all about bringing the community together in discussion about a common topic.
