NWS determines tornado touched down in Trigg County Monday

A National Weather Service damage survey determined an EF1 tornado touched down New Year’s Eve in Trigg County.

It touched down just off shore in Barkley Lake near Blue Water Estates at 12:35 p.m. and stayed on the ground for six-tenths of a mile. It was 125 yards wide and had maximum sustained winds of 90 mph, according to the survey report.

At least six homes were damaged, with most losing shingles and vinyl siding. Three garage doors were blown inward and one garage had loss of shingles.

About a couple dozen trees were snapped or uprooted and at least two people saw the tornado on the ground.

No one was injured in the twister.
