CCSO: Man assaulted girlfriend, fired shots at family

A Crofton man was arrested and is facing multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and fired shots at his family early Sunday morning.

According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Department report, deputies responded to a residence on Lewis Road after receiving a call that 37-year old Nicholas Almon had hit his girlfriend and fired a firearm at her and their two children.

The victim stated that she was physically assaulted by Almon when she took an alcoholic beverage away from him due to his behavior. He allegedly struck her in the face and head.  The victim reportedly took her children outside to get in her car and leave, which is when he allegedly shot two to three times at them with a handgun.  They were reportedly able to escape and went to an East Mill Street residence for safety.  Almon allegedly followed them and began yelling and discharged the firearm again.

Almon went back to the Lewis Road residence before deputies arrived, which is where he was located attempting to leave the driveway in a vehicle. He fled down the street erratically before slamming the brakes and stopping—he reportedly ignored orders to get out and told deputies “you’re going to have to kill me.”

Deputies were able to remove him from the vehicle and place him under arrest, when he reportedly said he was going to jail for a long time for what he had done and that “he killed them”.

A search of the residence revealed no one else inside, but deputies did allegedly discover 33 marijuana plants growing. Also found were multiple items of drug paraphernalia, a rifle leaning against a couch, a shotgun and 9.5 ounces of marijuana in baggies and mason jars.

Almon is charged with first-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, trafficking in marijuana, cultivating marijuana five plants or more, fleeing or evading police and resisting arrest.
