Travel impacts likely with winter weather over weekend

Snow, sleet and a little ice will all be possible when a storm system moves into the Pennyrile region of western Kentucky this weekend.

Rick Shanklin is the warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Paducah and says the main event will be Saturday night and Sunday morning.

He says all types of precipitation are possible and what falls at your home could depend on how far north or south you are located.

Shanklin says accumulation amounts are hard to pin down, but at least an inch or two is expected across the region.

Travel impacts are almost certain Sunday morning with whatever wintry precipitation falls.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has already begun pre-treating some major highways in western Kentucky and Christian County Road Department Superintendent Paul Finley says they’re gearing up and preparing to respond.

Shanklin says it’s a very tricky forecast and there could be a significant decline in accumulation amounts from the north to the south end of the county.
