President George H.W. Bush praised Fort Campbell troops during 1992 Clarksville visit

The late President George H.W. Bush praised the men and women of Fort Campbell when he made a stop at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville on the campaign trail in 1992.

WHOP News was there on September 29th, 1992 when then President Bush spoke to supporters at the Dunn Center and noted Fort Campbell’s role in defeating Iraq in the first Gulf War.

Bush looked to build on those military successes in the Middle East with economic opportunities for the APSU students and all Americans.

He also used the occasion to challenge Bill Clinton and Ross Perot to a series of debates. Clinton, of course, would go on to defeat Bush and Perot in that 1992 election.

Air Force One landed at Fort Campbell Army Airfield and President Bush’s motorcade took him down 41A to Clarksville.
