The Pennyrile region has already experienced a little snow and ice a couple weeks ago and the National Weather Service is having its Winter Weather Awareness Week beginning Saturday.
It’s a collaborative effort between the weather service, Kentucky Emergency Management and Kentucky Weather Preparedness Committee.
Michael Dossett, Director for KYEM says in a news release, “Winters in Kentucky can range from mild sunny days to historic snowfalls like we have seen in past years. Kentuckians need to know the risks associated with severe winter weather and ways to prepare ahead of time for winter events.”
Winter Weather Awareness Week is a time to prepare yourself, families, communities, schools and business for the upcoming winter season. Review your emergency plan, build or resupply your emergency kits and educate others on the hazards of winter weather.
Rick Shanklin with the National Weather Service in Paducah says they will be posting information regarding winter weather preparedness and awareness in the coming days.
