ESPN reports Tennessee offensive coordinator Tyson Helton has agreed to become the new head coach at Western Kentucky. Helton-the younger brother of Southern California head coach Clay Helton-just completed his first season in Knoxville.
The 41-year-old Helton is no stranger to the Hilltopper program, having served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in the 2014 and 2015 seasons under former coach Jeff Brohm. Helton replaces Mike Sanford who was fired on Sunday.
An official announcement is expected in the next couple of days. Tennessee will now be searching for its fifth offensive coordinator in six years.
