Former Kentucky player Tom Payne was released from prison today. The 67-year-old Payne had been serving a life sentence for a rape conviction at LaGrange, KY. Payne was the first African American basketball player at the University of Kentucky. He played against Western Kentucky when the schools met for the first time in the 1971 NCAA tournament in Athens, GA. He had 15 points and 10 rebounds in UK’s 107-83 loss to WKU.
