A proclamation was held Friday morning at Super Lawn and Garden declaring the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Shop Small Saturday.
Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks made the proclamation and urged people to shop local that day, to help support small business owners and the local economy.
Giving the city a new moniker—“Shopkinsville”—Hendricks says people can always shop local but they’ll have a chance to get a goodie bag and other items at Founder’s Square that day. The celebration begins at 10 a.m. November 24, when representatives from the Downtown Renaissance District, the Downtown Farmers Market and the Christian County Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to distribute “Shop Small” canvas tote bags stuffed with specials and coupons from local small businesses.
There will be a Christmas Cookie decorating station, face painting and the Christian County High School choir will perform. Festivities will end around 2 p.m.
Small Business Saturday is a part of Shop Small initiative that takes place all across the country.
