Large crowds are expected to gather Saturday in Guthrie to pay tribute to fallen police chief Matthew Humble in an effort to raise money for a fund established for his two children.
Chief Humble died last month at the age of 37 following a battle with liver cancer. He formerly served as a police officer in Russellville before joining the department in Guthrie and being promoted to chief in July of last year.
Jennifer Bellamy helped organize the fundraiser that will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday on North Ewing Street in Guthrie and says there will be live music, food and activities for children.
The silent auction begins at 10 a.m. and the live auction at 4 and there will also be two raffles for a handmade farmhouse table and bench and for an 870 Super Mag Shotgun.
Bellamy says it’s all about supporting the Humble family and honoring Matthew’s service to Guthrie and to Todd and Logan counties.
T-shirts, bracelets and flags honoring Chief Humble’s memory will also be available at the event.
Bellamy says the support the event has already received has been overwhelming and she’s expecting a big day.
