Although the ribbon cutting for the Hopkinsville Sportsplex has been delayed, that didn’t stop officials from inviting people into the facility for a sneak peek Thursday afternoon.
Attendees were able to view the layout of the large space that will soon host sports events including basketball, soccer and volleyball, individual games and possibly some tournaments such as archery or even e-sports. Sportsplex Marketing and Events Coordinator Chris Jung says they had to delay the ribbon cutting and opening due to some unforeseen complications but he’s hopeful it’ll be ready to go before the end of the year.
Jung was to assure people that the Sportsplex is not in competition with other local amenities and organizations.
The 54,000 square foot indoor sports facility will also have a large concession area, complete with televisions and device charging stations, along with meeting spaces available for rent. Jung says they plan to have the space open for use by individuals, not just for events, and they will soon begin having sponsorship opportunities for businesses.
Tours were given to the large group of people who showed up for a chance to get a look of what is happening inside of the building adjacent to the James E. Bruce Convention Center.
