Two people were killed and two were severely injured in a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon on Pond River Road about two miles north of Elkton.
The Todd County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 32-year old Janine Watzke and 30-year old Julie Powell, both of Elkton.
Kentucky State Police says 25-year old Zackary Cannon of Elkton was northbound on Pond River Road when he ran off the right side of the road for an unknown reason, over-corrected and then struck a southbound SUV driven by Watzke head-on.
Watzke’s juvenile son was flown to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Cannon was flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Todd County Sheriff’s Department, Rescue Squad, Emergency Management, the Elkton Fire Department and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet assisted at the scene.
