After months of construction, the ribbon was cut in celebration of the completion of Second Street Park on East Second Street in Hopkinsville.
It was perfect fall weather for the ribbon cutting, which was well attended by community members, those involved in the process and elected officials. Eastside Neighborhood President Christy Madyun says the park, which she says is a gift, was a longtime coming and will improve the quality of life for the community.
She says they intend to have educational opportunities in the community building adjacent to the park, not just for children but adults as well.
City Councilmember Thomas Grant says there were many ‘naysayers’ of the project, but he’s proud to say that it is complete and open to families.
Fiscal Court Magistrate Kenneth Bates says he has lot pride in his community and this park project was a collaborative effort between many people for years. The new park includes public restrooms, a playground, basketball court, pavilion, parking and lawn areas for gatherings.
