Three of the four men running for Mayor of Hopkinsville met in debate Thursday night as part of the Hopkinsville Young Professionals Engage “hype the vote” series.
Both independent candidates, Wally Bryan and Walter Shamble, were present along with incumbent Republican Carter Hendricks. Democrat Jason McCraw was not in attendance. All four men will face-off in the November election.
Some sparks were present among the candidates, as the debate had many rebuttals and follow-up answers throughout.
Shamble says there’s a conspiracy in Hopkinsville to keep those struggling with poverty down, and it’s time that changed.
Bryan says he intends to focus on job training for the youth and reigning in government spending.
Hendricks says Hopkinsville needs to more forward positively with a focus on enhancing the quality of life.
A variety of topics were discussed, including bringing more industry the city, how the candidates would encourage businesses to settle in vacant building downtown, how to attract young and military families here, workforce issues, tax increases and more.
