Gov. Bevin reacts to Supreme Court hearing

Governor Matt Bevin says he was disappointed with the focus of Thursday’s Kentucky Supreme Court hearing on the pension reform bill.

Interviewed by WHOP News, Governor Bevin says too much discussion was given to what he calls ‘technicalities’ of the bill.

Attorney General Andy Beshear’s argument against the legislation has been it was illegally passed by both chambers when the measure was inserted as a substitute into a bill originally set aside as legislation related to wastewater.

A Franklin Circuit Judge previously sided with Beshear based on the procedural questions and now the fate of the legislation is in the hands of the Supreme Court.

The General Assembly will be back in Frankfort for the 2019 session in January and Bevin says more work on the retirement systems will be a priority.
