Hopkinsville native and longtime coach Tony Henson has been named the Sportsplex Facilities Coordinator and he will start his role effective October 1.
According to a news release, the duties include developing, coordinating and conducting athletic events and maintaining athletic facilities at the brand new, 54,000-square foot Sportsplex. Henson will also supervise staff, assist in preparing and maintaining indoor athletic fields and surfaces, and oversee athletic programs with thorough scheduling and planning.
Henson has been actively involved in local soccer for around 22 years, including currently serving as the head of soccer operations at Heritage Christian Academy. A graduate of Hopkinsville High School and Hopkinsville Community College, has previously served as chairman of the Recreation Advisory Committee, as a member of the Hopkinsville Recovery Action Plan Committee and while assisting in the development and design of DeBow Park.
Henson says, “As someone who has been anxiously awaiting the opening of the new Sportsplex since the first announcement of the plans to build it, I am extremely excited about the opportunity to be a part of the team that will shape the future of a new facility — one that will be responsible for bringing thousands of new visitors to Hopkinsville each year.”
