Kentucky State Police have released additional details on a fatal officer-involved shooting early Monday morning that followed a pursuit of a stolen vehicle on Greenville Road, but the identity of the suspect who was shot and killed is unknown.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Department and KSP received a call of a suspicious vehicle with the driver slumped over the steering wheel at the intersection of Meacham Road and Greenville Road just before 12:30 a.m., according to a news release.
When deputies and a trooper arrived on scene, their investigation determined the automobile had been reported stolen out of Akron, Ohio.
The male driver reportedly became uncooperative and the state trooper attempted to remove him from the vehicle.
When the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle, he dragged the trooper until he was able to dislodge himself.
Deputies and the trooper pursued the stolen vehicle for several miles southbound on Greenville Road.
The suspect’s vehicle, for an unknown reason, caught fire during the pursuit and became fully engulfed.
The news release says that during the interaction at the end of the pursuit, the suspect was fatally shot by the state trooper.
The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene by Deputy Coroner Mike Stokes.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Response Team is investigating the incident and the identity of the suspect is unknown.
