Soyars to be sworn in as county attorney, Foster to be honored with reception

John Soyars

John Soyars will become the first man not named Mike Foster to serve as Christian County Attorney since early January, 1982 when he is sworn in next week.

Judge-Executive Steve Tribble appointed Soyars to fill the position after Foster announced he would be stepping down at the end of August. Foster said recent changes to retirement law meant he and his family would sustain a significant financial loss if he completed his term through the end of the year.

Soyars is a longtime assistant county attorney and was unopposed in this year’s elections to succeed Foster. The swearing-in will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in District Courtroom 3.

There will be a reception on Friday, September 7th to honor Foster for over 40 years of total service to the county. It will begin with a social hour at 3 p.m. in the justice center and speakers will give remarks beginning about 4 p.m.

The community is invited to attend.
