One of the recognizable names, faces and voices of Churchill Downs has died. Multiple reports say John Asher died of a heart attack while on vacation with family in Florida. Asher was 62 and had been employed by Churchill Downs since 1997. The Grayson County native was a graduate of Western Kentucky University, where he began in radio on WBGN. He also was a play by play voice for the Louisville Redbirds and also worked for a number of years in news for WHAS and WAVE Radio both in Louisville.
