HPD: Drunk driver crashed vehicle, became combative at ER

A man was arrested for his second DUI early Sunday morning after crashing his vehicle on West Seventh Street.

Hopkinsville Police Sgt. Rico Rodriguez responded to a single-vehicle accident in front of Speed Queen Laundry about 4 a.m. and found 40-year old Christopher Burrell of Hopkinsville standing near the crashed automobile.

An arrest citation says there was an odor of alcohol coming from his person and he spoke with slurred speech. He admitted to drinking earlier in the morning and was arrested for aggravated DUI and public intoxication.

Once at the jail he requested medical attention and was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where police say he became combative and began yelling vulgarities at the nursing staff.

He was allegedly combative with police and refused medical treatment.

Officers tacked on new charges of disorderly conduct and menacing and he was lodged in the local jail.
