Clarksville man arrested for attempted bank robbery

Clarksville Police have identified a man who allegedly intended to rob a U.S. Bank on Fort Campbell Boulevard in that city Wednesday morning.

Police say that at about 10:40 a.m., 25-year old Muhammad Talik Shahid of Clarksville entered the bank and gave the teller a note demanding money.

The would-be robber had a gun on his side, but did not point it at the teller.  Then, for an unknown reason, the man quickly departed the bank before receiving any money.

A bystander saw the man exit the bank with a partially covered face and got the attention of an Oak Grove police officer and alerted him about a man exiting the bank with a mask.

The Oak Grove officer followed the car to the Circle K gas station on Tiny Town Rd.  The Oak Grove officer observed the vehicle at the gas pumps until Clarksville Police Department arrived and took Shahid into custody.

Police say he did have a gun and there were additional items in the vehicle which were seized for investigative purposes.

The FBI assisted Clarksville Police in the investigation and Shahid is charged with criminal aggravated attempted robbery.
