Word has come that Greg Walker, the former longtime voice of Austin Peay State University men’s basketball and host of one of the country’s longest running sports talk radio programs, has died after a long illness.

In addition to calling Gov’s basketball games for the network in three different decades, Walker did play by play for high school sports in Clarksville, hosted One on One on Clarksville cable television and hosted Sports Talk on WJZM—a program that has aired twice weekly for 38 years.

He gained national notoriety in 2001 after ESPN Radio—particularly Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic of Mike and Mike in the Morning—picked up his passionate play by play of a call that decided APSU’s fate in the OVC tournament finals.

Walker has been off the air in recent months, but continued using social media to encourage his family and friends.
