Ground was broken Thursday evening at Patti’s 1880’s Settlement, which had its restaurant operations halted by fire that destroyed the building in February.

The new building should be open for business by the middle of next year and while it will have some updated features, it’s expected to maintain a uniqueness that made the old facility so popular.

Grand Rivers Mayor Tom Moody says Patti’s brings people from across the country to his small town.

Chip Tuller  is the owner of Patti’s and says Thursday marked the beginning of a process that will bring the iconic business back to the people it serves.

He says Patti’s has maintained the family values and atmosphere over the years that he learned from his parents as a child.

Those speaking at the ceremony that was streamed on the Patti’s Facebook page thanked the many firefighters who responded February 3rd and fought the large fire that destroyed the building.
