DRA grants $1.2 million for Novelis project in Guthrie

The Delta Regional Authority has announced a $1.2 million investment in Guthrie to help bring needed infrastructure to the Novelis plant.

Guthrie Mayor Scott Marshall says a vast majority will help Pennyrile Electric bring service to the 153 acre site on US 79.

The remainder of the money will be a good start toward paying for the $750,000 project to bring Novelis the large-scale sewer service it requires.

Novelis’ plant in Guthrie will be an aluminum sheet manufacturing facility for the automotive industry and the $300 million investment is expected to create 125 jobs.

Congressman James comer says in a news release that the announcement “continues to bring good news in helping to improve infrastructure, which is crucial to the success of Novelis.” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he is, “proud to have secured the critical resources in the government funding bill for fiscal year 2018 to support the Delta Regional Authority’s efforts to encourage economic growth and new jobs in Todd County.”

Governor Matt Bevin says the announcement is welcome news for Todd County.
