Hoppers edge Chiefs in game one of OVL West final

Malik Blaise had an RBI single in the bottom of the 9th inning bringing home pinch runner Davis Keller as the Hoptown Hoppers came from behind to edge the Paducah Chiefs 6-5 in game one of the OVL West Division championship series. The Hoppers also got a two run scoring single and a fielder’s choice from MJ Rookard in the win.

Rookard, Cole Cummings and Nick Proto each had two hits with Hassan Westbrook getting the pitching win. The Hoppers are now 24-20 on the season while the Chiefs fell to 23-22. Game two of the best of three series is this evening at Brooks Stadium in Paducah. First pitch is at 6:30, with pregame at 6:15 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com.

Elsewhere in the OVL last night: The Dubois County Bombers edged Henderson 1-0 in the final game of the OVL East Division semifinals. The Bombers begin play in the East Division Championship series this evening in Owensboro against the River Dawgs. First pitch is at 7 at Independence Bank Field.
