Hoppers clinch OVL West Division title with win over Madisonville

The Hoptown Hoppers won the OVL West Division title last night with a 5-1 victory over the Madisonville Miners. Hopper second baseman Cole Cummings hit a solo lead-off home run in the bottom of the third to give the Hoppers a 1-0 lead. Madisonville threatened in the sixth but left the bases loaded thanks to a brilliant pitching stint from Shane Burns.

The Hoppers would score twice in the bottom of the 7th and add two more in the bottom of the 8th on a two run home run by MJ Rookard, who had two hits along with Blake Jackson, Nick Proto, Matt Keane and Cord Johnson. Kyle Turner started and got the pitching win as the Hoppers conclude the season 21-20.

The Hoppers and Miners will meet in the semifinal round of the West Division playoffs Friday night at Colonel Field at 7:05 with pregame at 6:45 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com.
