Hoppers split twinbill with Owensboro

The Hoptown Hoppers split a pair of games with the Owensboro Riverdawgs last night at Colonel Field. The Hoppers won the opening game 4-2. It was a 1-1 tie until RIverdawgs shortstop Danny Torres hit a solo home run in the top of the 5th to give Owensboro a 2-1 lead. Hoptown would come back and score three times in the bottom of the 5th in part on a two run double by Cody Hartness. MJ Rookard and John Keane each had two hits for the Hoppers. Shane Burns and three relievers combined on a one hitter, striking out nine and walking nine. Burns got the pitching win with Hassan Westbrook getting the save.

In the nightcap, Owensboro won 3-1, with all of the runs were scored in the first inning. MJ Rookard and Cody Hartness each had two hits with Ryan Traylor taking the loss in his first start of the season.The Hoppers are back in action this evening at 6 in Fulton and will return home Monday night to host Paducah at 7:05, with pregame at 6:45 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com.
