Hoppers split twin bill with Chiefs

The Hoptown Hoppers split a doubleheader with the Paducah Chiefs last night at Colonel Field. Paducah used a nine run third inning in game one to rout the Hoppers 14-4. The bright spot for the Hoppers was a three run home run by Cody Hartness in the bottom of the sixth inning. Malik Blaise had two hits for the Hoppers while Kyle Turner took the pitching loss.

The Hoppers came back to win the nightcap 8-1. Clayton Stephens gave Paducah a 1-0 lead in the third with a solo home run before Blake Jackson hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third to give the Hoppers a 4-1 lead. Jackson would add a solo blast in the fifth and the Hoppers would score three more times in the sixth.

Cole Cummings had three hits with Jackson and John Michael Reed adding two for Hoptown. Brian Coffey went the distance to get the win allowing a run on two hits and striking out eight.

The Hoppers play their second doubleheader in as many days this afternoon in Henderson beginning at 5 pm.
