A Hopkinsville couple arrested in April for cocaine and child endangerment charges following a pursuit was indicted Friday by a Christian County Grand Jury.

Hopkinsville Police Officer Alexander Cortez stopped 32-year old Zackery Moody at East 13th St. and Phelps Ave. for not wearing a seat belt on April 14th and he exited the vehicle and ran toward the rail-trail, according to the arrest citation.

A passenger in the car, 28-year old Ashley Moody, got in the driver’s seat and drove away. She was located at 1303 Summit Street and was arrested. Police say two children under the age of 12 were in the car.

A K9 alerted on the vehicle and a search revealed two baggies of marijuana and a baggie of cocaine.

Both are indicted for fleeing or evading police, trafficking in marijuana and possession of cocaine. Zackery Moody is additionally charged with two counts of wanton endangerment, DUI and criminal mischief and Ashley with endangering the welfare of a minor and tampering with evidence.

The grand jury indicted 76-year old Ernest Wayne Stagner of Hopkinsville for failing to comply with conditions of the sex offender registry, alleging he changed his address without notifying the Office of Probation and Parole. He was originally convicted in Illinois of four counts of aggravated sexual assault and sexual abuse against a six-year old victim.

An indictment for felony theft of an automobile, theft by unlawful taking, fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest and driving on a DUI suspended license was returned against 27-year old Jacob Knight of Clarksville.

Those charges stem from an incident in April when he allegedly led police on a pursuit in a stolen Dodge Charger.
