An employee of a body repair shop was arrested early Thursday morning for allegedly stealing a customer’s car and possessing methamphetamine.

Hopkinsville Police were notified about 2:45 a.m. that 25-year old Andrew Scott of Hopkinsville was at a residence on Mill Terrace Court where he was not supposed to be. The caller said Scott could be found in a dark-colored Chevy pickup and the automobile was observed making an abrupt turn onto Mill Terrace and then turning its lights out when police arrived.

Scott and his passenger, 19-year old Howard White of Hopkinsville, denied they had been driving, saying they’d been parked at that location for a while.

A mirror containing white residue was in plain view and a search of the pickup revealed a cigarette box containing 3 grams of methamphetamine, according to the reports. A red straw containing a white powdery substance was located and Scott claimed ownership of that item.

A computer check showed the truck is owned by a customer of the body shop where Scott works and that person said no one had been given permission to drive it for personal use.

Scott and White were arrested for possession of meth and Scott is additionally charged with theft of an automobile, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a DUI suspended license.
