Memorial Day services coming up Sunday, Monday

Memorial Day services are planned across the region Sunday and Monday as the country pauses to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

VFW Post 1913 will host its annual service at Riverside Cemetery at 9 a.m. Monday and another at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West at 11 a.m. The guest speaker at both events will be Kentucky VFW State Commander Karl Johnson and Commander John Brame gives a rundown of how each service will go.

He says everyone should attend a Memorial Day service to honor those who lost their lives defending the United States.

There will be a lunch at VFW Post 1913 following the second service.

Meanwhile, the annual Memorial Day program in Trenton will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Edgewood Cemetery. The speaker will be Jimmy Shemwell, Chairman of the Todd County Veterans Committee. Amanda Fowler Sadler will be providing the music.

The service will be moved to Trenton Presbyterian Church in the case of rain.

In Trigg County, the James Thomas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host its annual Memorial Day service Monday morning at 10 at the Trigg County Justice Center.

The Montgomery County Veterans Service Organization will host the 2018 Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday at 10 a.m. at the William O. Beach Civic Hall, located in Veterans Plaza, on Pageant Lane in Clarksville.
