Community celebrates ‘Work Ready’ designation

Christian County was recently declared as a Kentucky Work Ready Community by Governor Matt Bevin and celebrated with a presentation Wednesday afternoon.

The Pennyrile Area Development District office was filled with elected officials, community members and area students. Josh Benton is the Director of Workforce and Community Development with the Cabinet for Economic Development and he says this designation aligns resources so potential employees can know what opportunities can be found in the community.

He says the work truly begins now as future business that settle here will see that the local workforce has the talent and skills necessary to staff existing jobs.

To become certified a county must gather local support and commitment and apply for the Work Ready Community designation. Counties have to meet criteria including high school graduation rates, career readiness certificates, demonstrated community commitment, educational attainment, life-skills development, broadband availability, and matching workforce supply and demand.
