Republican sheriff candidates debate

The two men seeking the Republican nomination for Christian County Sheriff faced off Monday evening in a debate at the League of Women Voters political forums.

Hopkinsville Police Lt. Tyler DeArmond and retired HPD detective Chuck Inman both say being sheriff has been a longtime goal and both cited their law enforcement experience and training as qualifications.

DeArmond believes relationships between the Sheriff’s Department and other police agencies are good right now, but wants to build on them to make them better. Inman hopes to hold meetings with sheriffs from adjoining counties to talk about ongoing crime issues.

Regarding placement of deputies in the county, DeArmond believes there needs to be more visibility for law enforcement in north Christian County.

Inman says he would draw up new patrol sectors and a new work schedule as sheriff.

DeArmond says he’ll meet with volunteer fire department and church groups to stay in tune with the public and Inman says he’ll place a focus on victims of crimes and make their reports accessible to them online.
