Excessive speed is considered a factor in a collision that killed one and injured another in Union County Wednesday following an attempted traffic stop.
According to a news release from Kentucky State Police, a trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by 35-year old Robert Bluem of Henderson and Bluem allegedly sped away. The trooper reportedly quickly lost sight of the vehicle. Soon after, emergency calls were received about a wreck that involved the vehicle from the pursuit.
Preliminary investigation revealed Bluem was travelling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle on US 60 near KY 141. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert and a tree before coming to a stop. He was transported to Deaconess Hospital for life-threatening injuries.
A passenger in the car, 31-year old Linda Smith-Bluem of Henderson, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Union County Coroner’s Office.
The vehicle was allegedly reported stolen out of Indiana and both occupants had warrants for their arrest.
