The first Associated Press HS polls of the season were released Monday. Trinity is the top ranked team in the Boys Top 10 poll with Campbell County first in the Girls Top 10 with Murray ranked seventh and South Warren is 8th.
College Basketball: The 21st ranked Kentucky Wildcats return to Southeastern Conference action tonight hosting Texas A & M. The Wildcats are coming off a loss on Saturday at Tennessee while the Aggies were edged 69-68 by LSU. Pregame coverage from Rupp Arena begins at 4:30 on Lite Rock 98.7.
Other SEC action this evening includes 24th ranked Tennessee at Vanderbilt.
Murray State and Austin Peay swept the Ohio Valley Conference weekly basketball honors Monday. Racer Johnathan Stark shared OVC Player of the Week honors after scoring 36 points against Southeast Missouri and adding 24 against UT Martin and joined the Racer 1,000 point club. Murray State is back in action Thursday night at Jacksonville State.
Austin Peay senior Averyl Ugba shared Newcomer of the Week honors after a 13 point-10 rebound performance against UT Martin and a 13 point eight rebound night against Southeast Missouri.
Meanwhile, Bowling Green native Terry Taylor won Freshman of the Week honors following a 29 point 14 rebound performance against Southeast Missouri and before that had a 15 point-five rebound night against UT Martin. The Governors are also back in action Thursday night at Tennessee Tech.
College Football: Former Virginia Tech and Murray State coach Frank Beamer was named Monday as part of the 2018 class for the College Football Hall of Fame. Beamer helped put the Murray State football program on the map in the 1980s, spending two years as the defensive coordinator and six years as head coach before leaving to guide his alma mater, Virginia Tech, to 238 victories over 29 seasons before retiring following the 2015 season.
Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen announced Monday he will return for his final season with the Wildcats. Multiple outlets had projected Allen as going in the first three rounds in the upcoming NFL draft. He racked up 65 tackles for the Wildcats this season.
NHL: The Nashville Predators look for their second win in as many games as they host the Edmonton Oilers this evening. First puck drops at 7 in Bridgestone Arena.
