Republic cutting off trash collection in Todd County

Republic Services has notified its customers in Todd County that they will no longer be collecting their trash.

Todd County customers received letters Friday saying their area would no longer be served by Republic after a recent review of service areas by their Operations Management Team. The letter indicates that the company is not leaving the market completely.

Republic will maintain its weekly trash collection for all of its customers through the end of the month to give “ample time” to secure a new service provider.

What’s not clear is who those affected customers outside of the city limits of Elkton or Guthrie can call. A representative for Waste Management confirmed to WHOP News that they only service customers in the City of Elkton through a franchise agreement and Waste Industries only services individuals living in the city limits of Guthrie, according to the Todd County Judge Executive’s Office. Trenton does not have a franchise agreement with any trash collection provider.

Residents of Todd County who lose their collection service can buy a membership card from the courthouse for $36 annually to haul their own trash to the convenience centers in Elkton, Trenton, Clifty and Allensville. Hours and days of operation vary by location.
