Former University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino agreed today to settle a breach of contract lawsuit with the University of Louisville that has dragged on for nearly two years. Louisville Athletic Director Vince Tyra said he’s happy the suit is over with:
Pitino will receive no money to settle his 40-million-dollar lawsuit, but the university will change his personnel file to show he resigned. Pitino had argued the university owed him the salary remaining on his contract through June 2026 because it did not have just cause in firing him. He also denied responsibility for the escort scandal that caused the school to be stripped of its 2013 national championship. Pitino was fired in October, 2017 soon after two of his assistants were named in a nationwide recruiting scandal.
