PADD hears from Kentucky Treasurer Allison Ball

The Pennyrile Area Development District Board of a Directors got a visit from Kentucky Treasurer Allison Ball at Monday’s meeting and heard a brief update on the War on Carp.

Treasurer Ball is one of the youngest women in the country to be elected to public office, though she jokes that there’s now someone three months younger than her, so she can’t claim the youngest title any longer.  She says she’s been hard at work in Frankfort, working on maintaining transparency in the state and helping keep track of government, and individuals, money.

She encouraged people, including those with businesses or involved in non-profit agencies, to go online to missingmoney.com and see if they have unclaimed property that can be reclaimed.

Treasurer Ball says her office played a part in getting a bill passed in the General Assembly that will make it mandatory for students to take a high school class in financial literacy.

Ball is running for re-election and is facing opponent Democrat Michael Bowman in the general election.

Lyon County Judge-Executive Wade White says the War on Asian Carp—an invasive species of fish that is having extreme impacts on both other fish populations and lake tourism in western Kentucky and other communities—continues and he recently got to visit with other agencies interested in correcting the problem.

Many methods are already being used, including sound barriers, commercial fishing and electronic technology.  Funding has been approved federally to help combat the ever-rising fish population.
