Doggie Dip brings in large crowds

The Tie Breaker Family Aquatic Center went to the dogs—literally—Saturday for the third annual Doggie Dip, and hundreds of pups showed up.

Dogs of all sizes took advantage of the park that’s usually reserved for humans, but they get their chance after Labor Day when the pools close for the season.  Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says around 200 dogs visited throughout the day, and the great turnout was a good way to close out a successful season for the water park.

He says that besides a wet June that kept some people away, Tiebreaker Aquatic Center still came close to 50,000 visitors this summer, a good chunk of which came from out of town.

The bigger dogs took the day, with close 150 splashing and playing together, and around 50 smaller dogs soaked up some sun and enjoyed some fun.  The two groups had separate times this year, in the interest of safety and letting everyone get their turn.

The water park is closed to people for the winter following the Doggie Dip, during which the pools are cleaned and prepared for another season.
