Mayor Carter Hendricks has recommended the promotion of Steve Futrell to become chief of the Hopkinsville Fire Department.
Futrell has served as interim chief since Freddie Montgomery retired and became chief in Clarksville at the end of July. He is a 20-year fire service veteran and was serving as deputy chief prior to Montgomery’s departure.
Mayor Hendricks says Futrell’s experience and knowledge made him the best choice and he had a lot of support inside the department.
Futrell says that support from his coworkers has meant a lot to him.
He says he’s humbled by the opportunity and ready to lead.
Hopkinsville City Council will consider the recommendation at its September 17 meeting.
Mayor Hendricks thanked the members of the selection panel who assisted in the process—including City Council members Amy Craig, Wendell Lynch, and Terry Parker; Fort Campbell Fire Chief Robert Coonce; Oak Grove Mayor Theresa Jarvis; City Administrator Troy Body; and Human Resources Officer Kenneth Grabara.
