The Democratic candidate running for Kentucky Secretary of State, Heather French Henry, made a stop in Hopkinsville Tuesday afternoon.
Henry, who served as the Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs and also won a Miss America title, says she’s feeling good about her campaign at this point and is eager to get to work, if elected. She says when it comes to early voting, she would sit down with county clerks and discuss how that may affect their communities and if it is wanted.
Kentucky has historically low voter turnout, and Henry says she wants to get more information about registering to vote into schools for students who are old enough to do so.
Non-profit and small business licensing happens through the Secretary of State’s office, and Henry says she would work to streamline that process by making it more available digitally.
She says she has a history of working in state government, especially for veterans’ affairs and for military services, and she’s prepared to step into the role if elected. Henry faces Republican Michael Adams in the November general election.
