Chief Justice Minton to speak at local library Thursday

Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John Minton will be at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library Thursday.

He will speak on the history of the U.S. Constitution from 10 until 11 a.m., according to a news release, which says it will serve as the library’s Constitution Day observance.

Justice Minton was first elected to the Supreme Court in 2006 and then to a second term in 2014.

Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787.

Officials say Library Genealogist Becky Quinten wanted to recognize Constitution Day by inviting Chief Justice Minton to speak. She contacted Chief Justice Minton and research established the Minton’s long history in Christian and Trigg Counties.

The first Minton to settle in Trigg County was Willis Minton and his wife Amelia, natives of North Carolina. They settled three miles north of the Cadiz precinct between 1811 and 1820. John Ernest continued farming the homestead and operated the “Sudden Service Station” with his partner Maddox, on 9th street in Christian County
