A local Tennessee Walking Horse trainer is bringing a world championship title back home to Crofton after a victory at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration this past week.
Travis Craft trained the horse named Night Crawler, who won the Amateur Show Pleasure Stallions World Championship, after facing off against 10 other horses at the top of their class. Craft says it feels great to bring home the title, especially since this will the second time he’s won with this horse in particular.
He says they won a championship in 2016, but then the horse changed owners and Craft came back to Kentucky—only to be contacted to train a horse this summer that was Night Crawler.
Craft has been training horses like Night Crawler since he was five years old, and he says he plans to continue for as long as he can. The Tennessee Walking Horse is a breed of gaited horse known for its unique four-beat running-walk and flashy movement.
The National Celebration took place in Shelbyville, Tennessee, where Craft says thousands of people attended to admire the horses and watch multiple competitions.
