Crofton man accused of assaulting Owensboro police officer

A Crofton man has been arrested for allegedly dragging an Owensboro police officer with his vehicle on Sunday.

Owensboro police say that at about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to a Center Street location for a drug complaint. After observing what appeared to be a drug transaction, officers attempted to make contact with occupants of a vehicle.

Passengers fled into an apartment and the driver, 20-year old Earl Cook of Crofton, allegedly refused to exit when instructed to do so. When Officer Kyle Mullins opened his door to get him out, Cook began fighting and accelerated at a high rate of speed, dragging the officer.

Police say Officer Mullins was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and continues to recover.

Cook got away, but was arrested Tuesday by the Christian County Sheriff’s Department. He’s charged with first-degree assault and felony fleeing or evading police.
